TurmeriCare didn't begin in a boardroom or on a sourcing website. It began with a question: why does the turmeric most Indians cook with every day carry so little of the curcumin that makes it powerful?

"We sat down with people who have spent years earning the trust of tribal farmers in the Jaintia Hills."

We flew to Meghalaya. We visited farms in Laskien Village, deep in the Jaintia Hills, where the Lakadong variety of turmeric has been grown for generations by tribal communities. We saw the rhizomes come out of the ground. We watched the grinding process. We held the finished powder in our hands — and the colour alone told us everything.

Why Lakadong

The difference

Lakadong is not a brand name or a marketing term. It is a specific variety of turmeric, grown in a specific geography, protected by a Geographical Indication tag. The colour in the photo above is not a filter — it is curcumin.

Regular supermarket turmeric contains 2–3% curcumin. Lakadong consistently tests at 7–12%. That's the compound responsible for turmeric's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties — and most turmeric gives you very little of it.

GI Tagged — Legally Protected Origin

The Geographical Indication tag means only turmeric grown in the Lakadong region of Meghalaya can carry this name. It is India's guarantee of authenticity — the same protection that covers Darjeeling tea and Alphonso mangoes.

The tribal farming communities of the Jaintia Hills have cultivated this variety for generations without chemical inputs. The soil, the altitude, and the traditional methods are inseparable from what makes Lakadong what it is.
